Link a work package to a Jira issue

Linking a work package to the Jira issue that implements it keeps investment-level drift traceable to delivery. The link is deliberately thin — one or a few epics per work package, never a mirror of the delivery plan.

Before you start

Section titled “Before you start”
  • You need edit rights on the project.
  • Link to the delivery epic(s) that implement the work package. Resist linking every child ticket — that would drag governance below the line.
Section titled “Link an issue”
  1. Open Work Packages and open the work package (choose Edit, or use the inline link affordance on the row).
  2. Find the Linked Jira work items field.
  3. Start typing in the search box (Search for work items…). Matching Jira issues appear as you type.
  4. Select an issue. It becomes a removable chip. Add more if the work package spans a few epics.
  5. Choose Save.

To unlink, remove the chip and save again.

Write-back to the Jira issue

When you link an issue, Tollgate maintains a custom Work Package field on the Jira project so delivery teams can see the governance linkage from inside the issue. The field is created once per project and reused thereafter.
